With a wide range of addiction specialists and treatment professionals on staff, patients at Desert Palms are able to receive hyper-specialized care that suits their needs. When you receive addiction treatment at Desert Palms, you and your treatment team determine which treatment track is the best fit for you. Then, as you progress through treatment, you and your team will reassess your needs and alter your programming as necessary.
Desert Palms is an inclusive, welcoming facility for the LGBTQ community. Our staff are sensitive to the unique struggles you may face and are committed to creating a safe, supportive environment that promotes healing and acceptance.
You'll attend individual and group therapies centered around sexual orientation and gender expression, and our family therapies invite your family of choice to participate in your care. If you participate in residential treatment, you are able to live with the gender you identify with.
Younger people needing addiction treatment have unique generational triggers that need to be addressed so they can stay sober. If you're between the ages of 18-24, you'll benefit from the young adult track offered at Desert Palms. Recover in a group of your peers that will become a support system during and after your treatment.
You'll have therapy sessions focused on how to overcome the social media pressure of platforms like Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat. And with our family therapy, your parents, siblings or family of choice will have the opportunity to learn how to best support you through your recovery.
Did you know that people with mental health disorders are more likely to also have an alcohol or substance use disorder? In 2014, about 8 million American adults were living with these co-occurring disorders. When only one of the disorders is treated in a patient, the other disorder is likely to be exaggerated and lead back to addiction or mental struggle. Co-occurring disorder care at Desert Palms ensures that every aspect affecting your addiction is uncovered and treated.
From your intake assessment to your progress through therapy in treatment, our staff will look for signs of co-occurring disorders and align your treatment plan to tackle these head-on.
Specialized Treatment for Trauma
Desert Palms has special expertise in treating trauma. We have a staff therapist who is trained extensively in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Emotional Transformation Therapy (ETT), two groundbreaking therapies used to work through patient trauma.
Therapists practicing EMDR use hand taps, audio stimulation, and most frequently, lateral eye movements in order to change the emotional response to a traumatic memory of fear or sadness to one of neutrality or acceptance. Practitioners of ETT manipulate colors to change patient emotional responses to events or memories. Your treatment team will determine if EMDR and/or ETT are appropriate additions to your course of care at Desert Palms.
Have you received treatment for your addiction before but struggled to stay in recovery? Have you been to so many bland, unhelpful addiction treatment facilities that you're unable to tell them apart? The Relapse Prevention track at Desert Palms can give you the tools you need to recover once and for all.
Get treatment with other people who have relapsed, too. You'll learn new ways to deal with the triggers of your addiction, be exposed to alternative ways to cope, and be spared from hearing the same information that hasn't helped you before. Plus, you'll have integration into the thriving recovery community of Palm Springs, giving you an even bigger support system than just your peers in treatment.
