Addiction is a family disease. At Heartland, we believe that including families and families of choice in our patients’ recovery process is integral to their lifelong success in staying sober. We offer family programming so you and your loved ones can heal together as a strong, cohesive unit that can lean on each other for support once your journey outside of treatment begins.
Heartland Family Therapy
At Heartland, both patients and family members will gain important skills from family therapy. Our family therapy focuses on:
- Educating families about addiction
- Helping patients and loved ones communicate in a positive way
- Teaching families how to set healthy boundaries with the addicted loved one
- Developing a plan of action for how to proceed after treatment is over
- Guiding families to work together and break the cycle of addiction
Our patients will have a weekly family therapy session. If your family lives close by, they are welcomed and encouraged to visit and participate in these weekly sessions. For families who can't visit in-person, these sessions will be completed over the phone.
Family Education Program
Families are welcome to visit during our designated Family Day. During this event, we aim to bring families together to learn more about addiction, share their experiences and celebrate the progress their loved one has made.
Family Contact and Visitation
Patients can contact family members a few times a week, as long as they're progressing well through treatment. If the patient's family lives close by, they are welcome to visit during the stay. Both family contact and family visitation will be arranged at the discretion of our treatment professionals.
